We were eating dinner tonight, and Jeremy fed Matthew some broccoli. I commented that it could make him gassy. A few minutes later, because Jeremy was holding Matthew and trying to eat a fish sandwich with one hand, part of the fish fell out of the bun and landed on the floor. Jeremy said, "Blast it all!" Jessica said, "See, Daddy. Mommy told you that was going to happen. You should have listened to Mommy." We were quite confused at what point I had shared such a premonition, since I didn't recall even having one, let alone sharing it. She continued, "Mommy said if you gave that to him it would make him blast it all over the place!" Jeremy was still confused where she was getting all of this from, and I pointed out to him that I had said "gassy." She apparently did not hear me quite right when I said it would make him "gassy," not "blast it." We thought that was pretty funny, but we didn't bother trying to explain it all to her. That's fine with me if she thinks Mommy is worth listening to! I wish she'd take her own advice! :-)
Just a side note: Yesterday was Matthew's 8th mirthday! The other day we weighed and measured him, and he is 19 pounds and 27 1/2 inches now! He is around the 50th percentile on everything still, so I'd say he's just right!!! :-) Unfortunately, he is teething right now, though, and is not as happy as usual. He is VERY clingy to Mommy. He now has 2 teeth on the bottom, and we can see the one coming in on top that is bothering him these past 2 days. Poor little guy. I'm glad I can't remember what that was like because I'm sure it hurts! He has just about got the crawling thing down; he's not doing it consistently yet, but it has been increasing. We'll see him scooting on his tummy still quite a bit, probably because it's faster for him, but he is gradually getting on his knees more. I've noticed it a lot more these past few days specifically. It's fun to see him growing! :-)

Kids are listening all the time, but they get really good at pretending they can't hear when they want too! How cute!
Give them all a hug for us!
oh yeah, NO more broccoli!
(I just forgot to have the rest of the comments forwarded. So here goes again...)
It is funny how selective their hearing can be. Jessica has had a major problem with that lately. She can repeat to us exactly what we said after she gets caught not obeying whatever we had said. Same problem with her teacher at school. I'm at a loss what to do about it. I feel like why bother even saying anything to her because she won't listen and obey anyway. I guess I must keep trying regardless in the hopes that something will sink in every once in awhile. :-)
I can't believe he's getting so big so fast!
I don't know tami, Chris still has selective hearing...he can repeat back all of my conversations I am silly enough to have while he is watching a game...
perhaps Jessica's is an attention issue as well...perhaps start your disciple with the word "chocolate" and see if her ears prick up a little.
I think a lot of kids must have selective hearing. I probably do, too. It was kind of funny. I was half listening to a message on my answering machine. All of a sudden I realized they had given me the telephone # and I hadn't paid attention. But, guess what, I still had it in my brain and ran to the phone. I got it right the first time. I was pretty impressed with myself.
Way to go, Sharebear! :-)
Britt, that cracked me up. I've got to try the chocolate idea. It just might work! :-)
Marcia, I can't believe how big yours are either. BYU seems like just yesterday and yet like forever ago. Crazy how time flies, isn't it?! :-)
Hey Tami,
I'm so glad you found me, what fun. Isn't the blog world great. I did just have my first baby, he has his own blog ikesfanclub.blogspot.com, thanks for tipping me off to Kirsten's. Does Kari have one or do you have her email, I was just thinking about her the other day. Sorry it took you a while to figure out if it was me, but glad you stuck with it and figured me out.
Hey guys. Great story...it's funny what kids will remember. I am looking forward to funny stories like that with Blake. We're glad you guys are doing well!
