I ORIGINALLY WROTE THIS POST BACK ON 2/23/2010 WITH THE INTENTION OF POSTING IT "SOMETIME SOON," WHICH OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T HAPPEN... UNTIL NOW. SO HERE WE ARE A MONTH AND A HALF LATER. I FIGURED IT WAS ABOUT TIME. ANYTHING SAID IN BLUE WILL BE ADDED TODAY. THE STUFF IN BLACK WAS WHAT I ORIGINALLY WROTE. :-)
Jessica has been saying for a looooooong time that she wants a baby sister. She started praying for it. I don't know yet whether it will be a sister or a brother, but her prayers are being answered to the extent of getting another baby in this family. It was not our timing, but the Lord's timing is best. We feel completely at peace that it is His timing and His plan.
Okay, that being said, the kids have said some things lately regarding the baby that are cute/clever that I thought were worth recording and sharing.
Jessica, of course, said she wanted a sister. We told her we could not guarantee it would be a girl. When we asked her, "What if it's a baby brother?" she began to respond negatively, and we quickly reminded her that she would love the baby no matter what, just like she loved Matthew even though he wasn't a girl.
We had asked Jacob if he wanted a baby brother or sister, and we were surprised that he said sister. (Maybe Jessica has brainwashed him! Hehehe!) I figured, knowing kids, that he may very well change his mind. This was several weeks ago. Well, this morning (2/23), Jacob was kissing my belly, like he so often does--so sweet, giving the baby kisses--and softly resting his hand on my tummy, looking so sweet and happy. I said to him, "You're excited to have a new baby, aren't you?!" He said, "Yes, because I want a baby sister!" I said I didn't know whether it would be a sister or a brother, and he very adamantly said, "No, I want a baby sister!" (I think Jessica really did brainwash him!) ;-) He is still quite determined that he wants a sister. He tells me he already has a baby brother; he wants a baby sister. The other night he was saying family prayers, and he said something to the effect of, "Please bless Mommy to have a baby. And please bless Mommy to have a baby girl. And please bless Mommy to have a baby sister... or a baby brother." It was like he got thinking that maybe he should include the possibility of a boy, even though he really wanted a girl. It was cute! Well, then to make it even more funny, after he finished the prayer, Jessica said, "Well of course it has to be a sister OR a brother!" LOL!
The other day, Jessica was asking about the due date (which is not until September--still very far away!). Then she started thinking. She said, "Well, Jacob was one day late, and Matthew was 9 days late. I was one day early, so this one should be 9 days early, so that way it is fair!" LOL! I told her that I liked her thinking and that it sounded like a great plan! I don't know that it will work that way, but it sounds good to me! After all, we have to keep things fair and even, of course! ;-)
Matthew is completely oblivious to any of it. Even though we've told him, he just doesn't get the whole baby thing. He just knows that he is "Baby Matthew"--that's his name, as far as he's concerned! He'll catch on eventually... maybe when the baby comes home from the hospital! ;-)
This last story has nothing to do with the baby but was just kind of funny. This morning when Matthew woke up, he was yelling, "Daddy, I need you!" I yelled back that daddy wasn't here, so he asked, "Where is Daddy?" I told him, and he very insistently replied, "No, Daddy IS here! I want Daddy!" LOL! He wouldn't believe me, and he wouldn't let me get him out of his crib until he finally realized that if I didn't get him out he'd be stuck there. After he finally let me get him out, he explored the house. When I told him I needed to change his diaper and tried to lay him down on the floor, he kicked and fought me and said, "I wanna go back to bed!" I said, "Me, too! Can I go back to bed?" and he said, "No!" Then he decided to let me change his diaper. I asked him if he wanted to go potty on the toilet, and at first he said no, but then he said, "I need to go potty." So he did it! He is soooo funny about changing his mind all the time. I guess it just has to be "his" idea! He's learning and getting bigger! :-)
So now the news is out! Some of you played our little game and figured it out; thanks for playing along; we were just trying to be creative about how we told people! To those of you who didn't figure it out, well, now you know! Hehehe! We still don't know what we are having, other than that it will be a baby girl OR a baby boy! ;-) I'm just looking forward to getting past the icky stage. I am 15 1/2 weeks now, so it shouldn't be too much longer... I hope! I have been very sensitive to smells, so I hate being in my kitchen, which has been difficult on my family as well as myself. Hopefully, that will pass with the icky stage. My due date is September 22, so we'll see how it goes! :-)
